I lost count of how many waffle makers I own:  once own a basic 2 pieces square waffle maker, then a 5-in-1 George Foreman grill/waffle maker, then a heart shape 5 pieces waffle maker, then making homemade ice cream led to purchase of a ice cream waffle cone machine.  My latest addition was Breville 4 slices Smart Waffle Maker.  Not to mention my crepe machine and a 3-in-1 Cuisinart crepe/tortilla/pizzelle maker.  However, the waffle maker out of all that I used the most frequent is my beloved bubble waffle maker (the metal mould with a long wooden handle that requires stovetop fire). Here is the recipe I love the most, courtesy of “I Love Cake” bake shop which prints its recipe at Ming Pao weekly food magazine (p. 31, May 20, 2011)

I always love Rilakkuma bears because they are so cute and adorable.  I recalled a youtube from last year teaching drawing using pancake batter.  The clip uses a pancake batter dispenser which generates pretty thick outlines.  I tried to find that  video but couldn’t anymore.

It’s okay, I recorded my making of the pancake.  The best looking pancakes were the 4th and 5th ones.  Then the batter must be sitting for too long.. by the time I decided to videotape the process, the last two Rilakkuma bears (the only ones I videotaped) looks pretty sad and they even cracked a bit.

It’s my first time making a video, pretty fun!  Hope you enjoy it!

I just realized our diets are lack of omega 3.  Salmon seems like our only source of omega 3, but we haven’t eaten salmon often enough.  I like my last waffle recipe, so adding some ancient grains to the same recipe should work.  I forgot to add vegetable oil to today’s batch, but the waffles were still fluffy.  Isn’t it nice to use NO OIL  / FAT at all except the PAM spray for the first couple batches (the rest of the batches I didn’t even bother to spray PAM).  What’s better than a hearty nutritious breakfast for a lazy Sunday morning?

Please see original recipe at:   http://allrecipes.com/recipe/waffles-i/

I made too much changes to the original recipe (asked for 2 cups of all-purpose flour).  I think as long as you keep 1 cup of flour as all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup as wholewheat flour, then the remaining 2/3 cups could be any grains you want (I have tried variations of  hemp hearts, ground flax, old fashioned oatmeal, chia seeds, ground quinoa etc).  I’m sure adding the 1/4 cup of oil (the recipe stated 1/2 cup) would make very nice waffles, but I won’t mind sacrificing the texture a bit knowing that the waffles contain zero oil.

What’s better than free recipes mailed to your house?  I have signed up for Kraft’s “What’s Cooking” years ago.  It was pretty exciting at first to see free food recipes in the mail every few months.  Then I started to lose interest to make the recipes because it’s too commercialized.  In order to make most of their foods, you have to buy Kraft’s signature salad dressing / dairy products / jello or pudding powder / Christie’s biscuits etc.  I think it’s great to busy mom to make quick dinner like, but at this point I still prefer to make things from scratch.

Then this recent issue had a “Fluffy Buttermilk Pancake” that they suggest using Kraft’s Peanut Butter and banana as toppings.  The pancake recipe itself is awesome!!  My last attempt to make pancakes must be months ago..  as I was never able to make super nice pancakes.  This recipe is definitely a keeper!!
