Clam Chowder


We went to Portland for our first anniversary.  It’s hard to resist clam chowder when you are at the coast.  So we ended up having clam chowder everyday.  Of course then I have to find the best clam chowder recipe:

New England Clam Chowder

This modified clam chowder recipe is very easy to make and extremely creamy like the ones you have from restaurant.  The trick is to add Old Bay seasoning (got that trick from watching food network).  Finish off with sprinkling smoked paprika on top will bring out the flavor very well.

La Carbonara


We went to a restaurant in Rome which is run by an old Italian lady (recommended by Rick Steves) .  The set menu was only $25 EUR per person with a lot of dishes.  The evening was filled with delicious homemade food,  a big pitch of red wine (at least 700mL for both of us), then finish off with a clementine dessert.  The true surprise was  the La Carbonara.  Usually it has soggy bacon / pancetta bites in the few Italian restaurants we visited.  This restaurant had super crispy cured pork fat.  We were pleasantly surprised as the small pieces of deep fried pork cubes reminded my husband of his favorite noodle dish back in Malaysia.
